Shopping and Product Reviews June 29th. 2010, 12:01pmBorn in 1988 came the Artists Series. In support of art and design Movado commissioned James Rosenquist in 1991 to create the Elapse, Eclipse, Ellipse watch. The three separate oversized time zones are powered by three independent self-winding nickel lever movements. Featuring 17 jewels in each movement and mono-metallic balances each watch runs independent of the others. This Abstract Expressionist piece has three multi-colored dials seemingly melted into one another with primary colored hands of red, blue and yellow. The case is silver and has three separate winding crowns with the case back secured by eight screws and another ten screws can be found in the band. Signed on the case, movements and dial this piece comes on a strap with a double folding steel buckle that is signed by James Rosenquist. The Ellipse dial swirls in blue and white representing the earth as seen from space, the middle dial Eclipse is a mixture of purple, red and yellow simulating a burning meteor eclipsing the earth and the Elapse dial has images of a fork, spoon and knife indicating an elapse of time, time between meals or the time ticking for people who are hungry according to the artist.180 watches were produced at a list price of $30,000 to $35,000. For the collector this piece could be quite an investment piece.A supporter of the Kennedy Center, NYC Ballet and the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts Movado is always linked to art. This watch is pure fun and creativity. It has its own personality much like the person who would wear it. “Time goes by, the solar eclipse, oval shaped”.
