Decades ago, being an airline pilot may have been considered one of the most successful career paths that a person could choose.  But in the last decade, in the wake of 9/11, many factors have hurt the airline pilot career.  In addition to 9/11, soaring fuel prices, a recession, and an increase in pilot retirement age has halted pilot hiring for most of the decade.Because of this, regional airline pilots have accrued longevity and do not plan to leave their regional airlines.  As the pilot retirements begin to spool up again, their could be many airline pilot job vacancies that need to be filled at the major airlines.
